Painted my front door for $12 and it looks brand new

I had this ugly faded red door that was driving me crazy every time I came home. Grabbed a $12 quart of exterior paint in a deep navy color from the hardware store on Main Street. Used a foam roller and it took maybe 2 hours total with drying time. Neighbors actually stopped and complimented it yesterday. Has anyone else tried painting their door a dark color like navy or charcoal?

Navy looks sick honestly, but you gotta be careful with dark colors on doors that get direct sun. I did charcoal once and it was peeling within a year lol.

Did you use a primer before painting that charcoal?
