Neighbor gave me her old curtains and I finally stopped living like a cave troll

For two years I had bare mini blinds in my living room that let in this awful harsh afternoon sun. My neighbor Carol, she's like 70 and always redoing her place, knocked on my door last month with a pair of tan linen curtains she said were "too dark" for her new scheme. I hung them up that afternoon and it instantly made the room feel cozy instead of like a dentist waiting room. She even showed me how to use those cheap clip rings so I didn't have to buy new rods. Cost me zero dollars and maybe 20 minutes of my time. Has anyone else gotten a killer free upgrade from a neighbor's leftovers?

Did Carol offer to help you steam the wrinkles out too because that's the step that always trips me up when I get free curtains from someone? I grabbed a pair of striped ones from my neighbor's garage sale pile once and learned the hard way that they still had that musty thrift store smell even after a wash. But hey, free is free and it beats staring at those sad bare blinds every afternoon.
