My neighbor Carol told me to swap out my old brass doorknobs for matte black ones, and after spending $18 at the Habitat ReStore in Austin last Saturday my whole entryway looks way more modern.
I was skeptical at first because the brass ones worked fine, but replacing all 4 knobs with those $4.50 matte black ones from the clearance bin has gotten three compliments from visitors this week, has anyone else had luck switching out small hardware for a big visual change?

Leapt at the chance to swap out my own sad little brass knobs after reading this (my door hardware looked like it was from a 90s sitcom set, not even joking). Got six of those matte black ones for basically nothing at the Restore in Denver and now my front door actually looks like a grownup lives here instead of a college kid who found furniture on the curb. The compliments are wild though, people notice the tiniest things. I'm convinced that spending $4.50 on a doorknob is the cheapest way to make your house look like you have your life together (spoiler: I definitely do not have my life together).

Used to roll my eyes at people getting excited about doorknobs, but you're right, the compliments are wild. Now I'm side-eyeing my own sad little brass ones.
