My dad insisted painting over wallpaper was fine, he was wrong
He said just put a coat of primer on it and you'll never know it's there. Ended up with bubbles all over the living room wall that got worse every time it got humid. Had to rip it all down and start over anyway, who else has dealt with peeling paint from this kind of shortcut?

Twenty four hours after I primed over wallpaper in a rental house I owned, the whole thing looked like a pizza that had been left in the box too long. The moisture from the paint just lifted every seam and turned them into these sad little bubbles you could pop with your finger. Ended up steaming off six layers of paper that must have been up since the Nixon administration. Never trust anyone who says you can paint over wallpaper, they're either lying or they've never tried it on a humid day.

Oh buddy, I feel your pain. My dad said the same thing about primer over hideous floral paper in my kitchen. Two weeks later the whole wall looked like it had chickenpox. Ended up spending a whole weekend with a steamer and a scraper, finding old layers of newspaper from 1972 underneath. That shortcut cost me way more time than just doing it right the first time.
