I was team peel and stick till I tried contact paper on my counters
I was gonna drop like $60 on those peel and stick tile sheets for my kitchen backsplash in Austin. But my friend Sarah convinced me to try marble contact paper on my laminate countertops instead for $12 from Hobby Lobby. It's been 3 months and no peeling or bubbling even near the sink. Anyone else have luck with contact paper on weird surfaces?

My mom tried that contact paper on her bathroom counter in 2019 and it lifted after like 2 months near the toothbrush holder. She was super careful too, used a hairdryer and everything. I dunno, maybe her laminate was just too old or slick or something. I think a lot of it depends on how clean your surface is and what kind of glue they used on that specific roll. Yours holding up for 3 months is pretty good but I'd wait until at least 6 months before calling it a win. That backsplash area might be different since it doesn't get as wet or hot as a counter near a stove.

Your mom probably got a bad roll or that bathroom counter had some weird residue on it. Three months near a sink is already beating the odds compared to half the renter hacks I see on TikTok. Contact paper is like a lottery ticket - some people win big and others are peeling it off their ceiling by week two.
