I finally redid my whole hallway with a $14 can of paint and my neighbor's one comment in Lowes changed how I think about it
So last month I was standing in the paint aisle at Lowes in Lexington holding two gray swatches and totally stuck, and this older lady next to me said "honey, paint the trim the same color as the walls, it makes the ceiling look taller." I thought she was nuts but I tried it on my 1970s hallway that had that awful yellow-beige trim and only spent $14 on a gallon of mis-tinted white paint from the clearance rack. Two coats later the whole space looks wider and way less chopped up, and my sister actually asked if I knocked down a wall. It took me one Saturday and I still have half the can left for touch ups. Has anyone else tried the same-color trim thing, and did you hate it or love it?
My buddy did this in his split level last year and would not shut up about it for weeks. He had this weird cream trim against light gray walls that made the stairs look like a fun house, and once he painted the trim the same gray the whole thing just read as one clean shape. His wife walked in and asked when they got new floors, which they did not, it was the same carpet. Half a can of paint and now he acts like he invented the idea.
