Heard my neighbor bragging about his $4000 kitchen backsplash and it got me thinking

I was watering my tomatoes last Saturday and overheard my neighbor telling his buddy he spent $4000 on a subway tile backsplash. Now don't get me wrong, it looks nice, but I did my own with peel and stick tile from Home Depot for about $80 total. Took me one afternoon and honestly after two years it still looks great. Has anyone else had people tell you that cheap upgrades just won't last?

$4000 for subway tile? That's a down payment on a used Honda.

Hear me out though, that tile work includes labor, prep and materials so $4k is actually pretty standard for a decent sized kitchen backsplash. You're paying for someone who knows how to make those edges perfectly straight and won't have it looking like a DIY nightmare a year from now. Compared to what a bad tile job costs to fix later, $4k is practically cheap insurance.
