Found my old wooden spice rack for $3 at a garage sale last Saturday
I was driving through the north side of town and spotted this old spice rack at a garage sale. It was all scratched up but solid pine, and the lady said three bucks. Brought it home, sanded it down with some 120 grit I had in the garage, and gave it a coat of that cream colored paint I had leftover from last year. It looks perfect above my stove now and even holds all my jars. Has anyone else had luck refinishing something old and beat up into something actually useful?

YouTube vid said to start with 100 grit then work up, so you're good.

Gotta point out that sanding with 120 grit is probably a bit too rough for most finished pieces, you might wanna step up to 220 next time to avoid those scratches showing through the paint. Still sounds like a solid find though, three bucks for solid pine is a steal these days. I've fixed up a few old tables with the same approach and they turned out great after a proper sanding.
