Went to the public gardens downtown today, something felt off about the labels
So I finally made it to the Magnolia Gardens near the river yesterday, and I was kind of excited to check out their native plant section they've been bragging about. But honestly, half the signs had the wrong common names on them or were missing completely. There was a big patch of what looked like swamp milkweed with a label that just said 'Milkweed' and nothing else, no scientific name or bloom time or anything. I spent like 20 minutes trying to match the leaves to my plant ID app because I couldn't trust the signs. Ngl it bugs me when public spaces put in all this effort to grow stuff but then half-ass the education part. Has anyone else run into bad labeling at a botanical garden near you?

Used to think labels were fine but yeah those ones sound rough.

Why is it such a big deal if a plant label is missing or has the wrong name? The gardens are there to look nice, not to teach a botany class, and if you really cared about the plants you'd just look them up like you did. @theawest is right that we used to just enjoy the flowers without obsessing over every little tag. Honestly, people get way too hung up on details that don't affect the actual beauty of the place.
