Went to a plant swap in Portland and left annoyed at the succulent gatekeepers
Drove 40 minutes to this big swap at a community garden, and some lady literally scoffed when I asked if my overwatered echeveria could be saved with root trimming. Why do people act like you need a horticulture degree to keep a houseplant alive? Has anyone else run into this weird superiority thing at local meetups?
Noticed this same thing at a bread baking class last year, where a guy acted like my dense loaf was a moral failing instead of just me using old yeast. It feels like every hobby now has this layer of people who treat basic knowledge like a membership card they get to check at the door. Same energy as the guitar store guys who watch you touch a pedal for two seconds before swooping in. Half the time they learned everything from YouTube too, they just want somebody to feel dumb around them.
