Shoutout to the volunteer at the Denver Botanic Gardens who saved my sad little fern

Last Saturday I brought my dying rabbit's foot fern to the plant clinic at the Denver Botanic Gardens, mostly just to hear someone tell me it was hopeless. A volunteer named Marcia took one look at the rhizomes and said I'd been watering it from the top for 8 months, which basically drowned the poor thing. She showed me how to soak the pot from the bottom for 20 minutes and let it dry out between drinks, and honestly I felt a little dumb. Two of the fronds have already greened back up, which I did not expect at all. Has anyone else had luck saving a fern this way, or is mine just bouncing back out of spite?
