Pro tip: that $18 moisture meter from the hardware store saved my whole pothos collection
I used to water my pothos on a schedule, every 7 days, and slowly killed 4 of them in my apartment here in Cincinnati. Then I grabbed an $18 moisture meter at the Ace on Montgomery Road and figured out my big golden pothos was still soaking wet on day 7 every single time. Now I only water when the meter reads a 2 or 3 down near the roots, and that plant has put out 6 new leaves since March. Anyone else ditch the finger test for a cheap meter, or am I just bad at judging soil by feel?
The finger test is worthless once roots fill the pot. My fiddle leaf was bone dry two inches down but still wet down low, and I was drowning it every week. Ten bucks for a meter beats losing a plant you spent years growing.
