My attempt to root a jade plant cutting in water instead of soil gave me a weird, fuzzy white root system after two weeks.
Turns out it was a happy colony of beneficial fungi forming a mycorrhizal network, which I only identified after posting a blurry photo to a plant ID group, so has anyone else had a cutting do something that looked wrong but was actually a good sign?

Wait, so fuzzy roots are a good thing now?

Right, @the_blair, my plants always do better with those fuzzy roots.

Notice how everything we thought was bad gets rebranded. First it's mold on cheese, then it's fuzzy roots on plants. Give it five years and they'll sell jars of the stuff.
