I finally gave in and tried my aunt's advice to talk to my fiddle leaf fig every morning for a month, which I thought was total nonsense until I saw three new leaves pop up last week.

Has anyone else had a plant respond to something you were sure was just a silly old wives' tale?

Tell me about it. My last big experiment was trying to bake bread from scratch, and let's just say the fire alarm was the only thing that rose. Feels like I'm just collecting data on what not to do.
