Hot take: most people don't know how to actually deadhead their roses
I spent two summers hacking off spent blooms at the wrong spot before my neighbor finally showed me. She's 70 and has these massive rose bushes while mine always looked scraggly. Turns out you gotta cut down to the first five-leaflet leaf, not just anywhere below the flower. I checked five different gardening books and three YouTube videos before she corrected me. Why does nobody teach the leaflet rule? Any other beginners finding out they've been doing basic cuts wrong this whole time?

The five leaflet rule changed my whole rose game too. Wish someone had told me years ago.

@evanfox you're dead on, I did the same mistake for two years before a neighbor set me straight on that leaf rule too.
