Giving my ferns a cold shower fixed their brown tips

They were drying out in my Phoenix apartment even with daily misting. I started putting them in the actual shower under cool water for two minutes every other day, and the new fronds look perfect. Does anyone else run their plants through a rinse cycle?

Saw my friend try this with her sad looking Boston fern last month (she was convinced it was a goner). She gave it a cool shower twice a week, just like you said, and now the thing is putting out all these bright green new leaves. It's basically her bathroom mascot now. I guess some plants just really want that full leaf soak instead of a light mist.

Mist daily and you're just asking for mold. That's how you get those fuzzy gray spots on the fronds. A good shower every few days gets water to the roots without leaving the leaves wet for hours. My maidenhair fern got a nasty case of that before I switched to a weekly soak.

Cold showers are a total game changer for ferns in dry air. Misting just wasn't cutting it for my crispy bird's nest fern either. The shower really gets the whole plant wet and lets it actually drink.
