That $70 temp probe I bought saved my brisket last Sunday

I spent $70 on a ThermoPro dual probe wireless setup and it felt like a lot for a thermometer. But after ruining three briskets in a row last month by overcooking them, I had to try something different. This thing let me monitor the meat temp AND the pit temp from my couch through the app. The pit temp was swinging 40 degrees more than my old gauge showed. So I adjusted the vents halfway through and the brisket came out perfect at 203 after 12 hours. Has anyone else found that their smoker runs way hotter than the built-in thermometer says?

Throw that money away on a gadget when your real problem was not learning to read the meat by feel and smell.

You ever notice how your oven's thermostat lies to you about preheating too? My old gas range says it's at 350 but I keep a little oven thermometer in there and it's usually off by 25 degrees either way. Drives me nuts when I'm trying to bake cookies for the kids and they come out flat because the temp is all over the place. I finally just wrote down the real temp on a sticky note and taped it to the microwave so I don't forget. My smoker's built-in thermometer was even worse though, reading 50 degrees low when I first got it.
