Switched from store-bought rubs to mixing my own and the difference is night and day
For years I just grabbed whatever rub was on sale at Kroger. Then last summer after watching a pitmaster in Kansas City talk about salt ratios I started making my own. Been doing a simple 2:1:1 mix of brown sugar, paprika, and black pepper with some garlic powder. Cost me like $8 for ingredients that lasted 3 months instead of $6 for a tiny jar. Anybody else make their own blends or still buying pre-made?

A buddy of mine ruined two racks of ribs with a gourmet rub he ordered online.

That fancy rub probably had too much sugar in it, burns up before the meat gets tender.
