Stopped by a competition BBQ spot in Lockhart last weekend and noticed something strange

I took a drive down to Lockhart Texas to visit Kreuz Market and Black's, hoping to pick up some tips for my backyard smoking. What caught me off guard was how many teams were using electric pellet smokers instead of stick burners at a local qualifier they had going on. Is this a common thing now or did I just stumble into the wrong group of pitmasters?

You mentioned switching to a pellet grill in 2019 and that's about when I gave up trying to look cool with my offset and burned brisket. @hernandez.ben, I never tried a pellet smoker myself because I'm afraid I'd just find a new way to mess up supper. At this point my backyard is just an expensive test kitchen for my neighbors to laugh at.

Did you try a pellet smoker yourself or stick with the offset?

July 2019 was when I switched from a stick burner to a pellet grill. I got a Rec Tec about four years back and honestly never looked back. It's a different flavor profile but once you dial in the right pellets the convenience is hard to beat.
