I bought a fancy digital thermometer that set me back $80 and it was a total mistake
For a solid year, I was sure I needed that high-end digital probe with the phone app and the graphs. I figured more data meant better barbecue, right? So I saved up and got one, thinking it would make my brisket perfect. The thing is, it was so complicated to set up and the app kept losing connection to the probe. I spent more time messing with my phone than actually watching the fire, and my last pork shoulder came out dry because I was distracted by a graph instead of feeling the meat. I'm back to my simple $20 dial thermometer and paying way more attention to the pit. Has anyone else gone back to basics after a gadget let them down?

My app's graphs actually taught me when the fire needs more wood.

Ever notice how the more you watch a graph, the less you actually learn about the meat?
