Figured out a trick for keeping my smoker temp steady in the wind

I live in west Texas and the wind kept throwing my offset smoker temp all over the place. I grabbed an old moving blanket and wrapped it around the firebox side, not even fully covering it, and it held at 250 for 4 hours straight. Anyone else use something weird to block the wind?

Those moving blankets are tougher than they look too. I got one from Harbor Freight for like 8 bucks and it's been through three seasons already without falling apart. Felix is right about the wind being free out here but I'd pay a little extra for a day without it honestly. Maybe try wrapping it around the bottom of the cooking chamber too, I did that last month and it kept the temp even steadier. The blanket just sat there soaking up the heat and the wind barely touched it.

Moving blanket is a classic move. I half expected you to say you just slapped a couple of 2x4s against the firebox and called it good. Next time the wind picks up try wrapping that blanket around your ankles too, keeps the whole setup from walking away. At least out here in west Texas the wind is free, right?
