Aaron Franklin's brisket rub only has salt and pepper - saw it in a video and it shocked me

I was watching his MasterClass and he said he never uses any other seasoning on a full packer brisket, just coarse black pepper and kosher salt, and now I'm wondering if I've been overcomplicating my rubs for the last 10 years - has anyone else tried going this simple on a whole brisket and had it work out?

Ha! My buddy tried that once and his buddies ate it all before he got any.

Right? Same thing happened to me with a batch of smoked trout dip I spent all afternoon on. Turned my back for two seconds and three of my fishing buddies had polished off the whole bowl with crackers. Ended up eating crackers with just a scrape of leftover dip myself. You learn to hide a portion in the back of the fridge before bringing the rest out, dont you?
