Why does nobody talk about how we used to do fades with just clippers and a comb
When I started cutting in my uncle's shop back in 2004, a fade meant clippers, a flat comb, and your eyeballs, and if you messed up the blend you heard about it from the guy in the chair. Now I've got a cordless with a fade blade, three guards, and a foil shaver, and honestly the young guys coming out of barber school can't blend without a guard system telling them where to stop. I'm not knocking the tools, my hands hurt less at 45 than my uncle's did at 45, but I swear half the fades I see now look the same because everybody's chasing the same three formulas off their phone. Any of you older guys still freehand the whole thing, or did you give in and buy the fancy kit?
