Stepped into a shop in Brooklyn that only uses clippers from the 1980s

Guy told me he hasn't bought a new clipper since 1985 and they still cut better than anything on the shelf today. Anyone else know barbers who swear by old gear like that or is this guy just stubborn?

Read something similar about how old tools were built to last forever while new stuff is designed to break in a couple years. Those 80s clippers had metal parts and motors that could run all day without overheating. My uncle was a barber and he swore his Wahl from 1978 still cut smoother than the new cordless ones he tried. I bet that Brooklyn shop knows exactly what works, and it isnt planned obsolescence.

Did the guy have any old tools in there besides the clippers? I was at a vintage electronics shop once and the owner ran the whole place on a 1984 Macintosh computer. Wouldnt touch anything newer. Said the newer stuff just had too many bells and whistles he didnt need. Funny how people get attached to specific eras of tech.
