Question about client feedback: clippers vs scissors on the sides, where do you land?
About 6 months ago a guy sat in my chair and after I finished his fade he goes 'my last barber scissor cut the sides and it grew out softer, this clipper work feels choppy.' I brushed it off at first but he was right, you could see the lines under the light at the shop in Tacoma. So I started doing scissor over comb on the sides for anyone with fine or curly hair and keeping clippers for the real dense stuff, and honestly the grow-out feedback has been way better. But now I've got two guys who want that tight crisp look every 2 weeks and they say the scissor cut looks fuzzy after day 10. So I'm stuck, do I treat it as a hair type thing and just ask every client what they want, or do I pick one way and stay consistent so the cut grows out the same every time? I timed it last week and the scissor over comb adds about 8 minutes per head, which matters when you're booked back to back. What are you all doing, are you matching the tool to the hair or keeping one method and just owning it?
