Overheard a client say his last barber rushed his fade, and it stuck with me

Guy in the chair last Tuesday told me he drove 40 minutes to my shop because his old barber always finished his fade in 20 minutes flat. He said it looked fine from the front but the back was patchy and uneven. That got me thinking about how I time my own cuts. I started timing my fades with my phone about 2 months ago, and I average 38 minutes per fade now. That extra time is the difference between a clean blend and a bunch of angry callbacks. Anyone else track their cut times or do you just feel it out as you go?

Man, that really hits home. It's like the whole world is obsessed with speed these days, but nobody wants to admit that rushed work just means redoing it later. I see it everywhere, from the guy who "fixes" his sink in ten minutes and floods his kitchen, to people who slam out a report at work and then spend an hour fixing the mistakes. Taking the extra time isn't slow, it's just smart. Your 38 minutes is basically you telling the client their head is worth more than a quick buck.
