My family treats my barber shears like craft supplies

I found my best scissors in my kid's playroom covered in glitter and glue. They used them to cut up cardboard for a school project. Now the blades are nicked and won't cut hair right. I had to turn away a regular because my tools were messed up. It feels like no one at home gets that this is my job. How do you guys set boundaries with family about your gear? I'm about to buy a lockbox for everything.

That's so frustrating when they don't see your tools as your job. A lockbox sounds like a solid plan to me.

A lockbox solves the access problem, but it doesn't fix the real issue. The problem is they don't get that the tools are part of the work itself. You can lock the stuff up, but you still have to deal with that basic lack of respect. It's a band-aid on a bigger wound.

So a lockbox fixes the gear, but does it fix them not getting why your tools matter?
