Had a client in the chair yesterday who made me think about the shop's vibe
Honestly, this older guy came in for a trim, a regular I've cut for about two years. He's usually quiet, but yesterday he looked around and just said, 'You know, I come here because it feels calm. My last barber had a TV blasting news all day and it felt like a waiting room at a clinic.' It hit me because I never really thought about the noise. I've got the radio on low for background, but I guess that's different. His comment made me walk out front and really listen. The street noise, the fridge hum, the clippers. Tbh, I'm gonna try turning the radio off for a week, see if it changes the feel. Has anyone else messed with the sounds in their shop and noticed a difference with clients?

My shop in Portland used to have a sports podcast on all day. Switched to just a fan and some old jazz records, and tips went up like 15%. People just want a quiet place to zone out, you know?

My old boss tried a 24/7 news channel in our cafe and tips dropped 10% in a month. @west.alice is onto something with the quiet vibe, people just want to chill without all that noise. I guess my boss should have tried a fan and some jazz instead, lol.
