Guy in the chair next to me at the shop said fades are 'a young man's game,' and I've been chewing on it for 3 days
He's 58, been cutting in Toledo for 30 years, and watched me knock out a skin fade in 20 minutes while he was still sectioning his client's hair. Tbh it made me wonder if I'm just fast because I rush the blend, so how do you all check your work before the cape comes off?
Did you ever watch those old barber videos where the guy checks the fade with a hand mirror under different lights before he lets the client look? I saw one from a shop in Chicago where the owner walks around the chair twice, once from the front and once from behind, because your eyes lie to you when you've been staring at the same head. That trick alone cut my callbacks way down, since half the bad blends I caught were only bad from an angle I never checked.
