Switching from plastic bowls to ceramic for my sourdough starter after 4 months of weird smells made a huge difference in consistency.
The plastic kept holding onto faint vinegar odors no matter how much I scrubbed, but the ceramic kept the starter clean and active with no off flavors has anyone else noticed their tools affecting the final taste of their bread?

My buddy who bakes sourdough on the weekends had this same problem with a plastic container. She would wash it with hot soapy water and baking soda but the starter still smelled kinda funky after a few days. She finally switched to a glass mason jar and within a week her starter was way more active and the bread actually tasted cleaner. Seems like plastic just traps the old bacteria no matter what you do.

Glass is definitely the way to go, plastic holds onto all that old gunk FOREVER.
