Spent $45 on a proofing basket and my boyfriend thought it was a fancy hat

Left my new banneton on the counter after shaping a loaf and came back to him wearing it on his head asking if it made him look like a French baker, has anyone else had their tools mistaken for something else?

The coiled cane pattern on a banneton does look a bit like those old fashioned woven hats or even a basket hat from some festivals. I had a friend once grab my rice paddle off the counter and use it to scratch his back. He said it was the perfect curve for it. I can just imagine your boyfriend parading around the kitchen in that banneton like he was about to start kneading baguettes in a Parisian bakery. Hopefully he didn't leave any hair product residue in the coils because that stuff can be tough to get out of the cane. Did you at least get a photo before you took it off his head?

The French baker comment is funny but a banneton is more of a basket for shaping bread dough, not really a hat. A French baker would probably wear a flat cap or a beret, not a coiled cane basket on their head. I can see how the shape and coil pattern might make him think of a hat though, especially if he doesn't bake. Hope he didn't mess up the flour dusting or leave any hair in it before you used it for your loaf.
