Can we talk about proofing dough in the microwave?

I always struggled with getting my bread dough to rise in the winter. My kitchen gets cold and it would take hours. Last week I tried putting a cup of hot water in the microwave and setting the dough bowl inside with the door closed. The dough doubled in size in about 45 minutes. Has anyone else found a trick that works better for cold weather proofing?

Yeah the water trick works alright but I switched to putting my dough in the oven with just the light on instead. Stays warm enough without drying out and no risk of accidentally nuking it lol. That cold kitchen struggle is real though.

Wait, you only waited 45 minutes for it to double? That's incredible... I've been leaving mine in the microwave with hot water for nearly two hours and it barely moves in the winter. What kind of dough were you using? I do the same trick but I swear my kitchen is so drafty the water cools down way too fast.

Have you tried @fiona_scott44 using a heating pad under the bowl instead of water?
