Went from guessing capacitor sizes to actually testing them about a year ago, now I bring my meter on every call
I used to just order the part that looked similar to the old one and hope it worked, but after three callbacks in one week back in October I bought a decent LCR meter and now I check microfarads before swapping anything, has anyone else had better luck with a specific brand of capacitor tester for inrush current readings?

Started laughing at myself because I still carry a spare capacitor in my bag just in case my meter lies to me, which it never has, but old habits die hard. Ended up buying a mid-range Fluke meter after my cheap one gave me a reading that was off by like 15 percent on a good cap and sent me chasing a ghost for an hour. For inrush readings specifically, I just use the peak hold function and try not to blow my own eyebrows off when the numbers jump. Honestly, the real upgrade was learning to trust the meter over my gut, because my gut once told me a 45 mfd was fine and the compressor disagreed real loud.
