Used to fight with those tiny plastic clips on dryer vents. Now I just snip them with a pair of side cutters from Harbor Freight. Saves me about five minutes per job.

So @lisa_murray, have you actually seen a fire start from a missing clip or is that just a guess?

Those little clips are there for a reason, they make a tight seal that keeps lint in. Cutting them off seems like a shortcut that could cause problems later, maybe even a fire risk. A proper clamp is more reliable and only takes a minute longer to use right. Saving five minutes isn't worth it if it means doing a worse job.
