Took me 3 years to figure out I was using the wrong type of multimeter for fridge compressor checks
An old tech from Arkansas showed me his Simpson 260 analog meter on a call last fall and I finally understood why my digital readings were all over the place on starting windings - has anyone else switched back to analog for certain tests?

Used to roll my eyes at analog guys but you're absolutely right.

Analog meters are like manual transmissions at this point - fewer people know how to use them but they still do some things better. Took me a while to accept that sometimes the old tech isn't just stubbornness. Went back to my dad's old Simpson for motor windings and suddenly everything made sense again.
