Told a customer their fridge compressor was shot, then had to eat my words over a $12 part
Got called out to a place in Toledo last week for a fridge that was running warm and the homeowner was already quoting me prices on a new one. I pulled the back panel and was about 90 percent sure the compressor was on its way out, so I quoted the job both ways, new compressor or just go buy a fridge. Went with the cheap fix first, swapped the start relay for a $12 replacement, and it fired right up and held temp all day. Felt like a real idiot for even saying compressor out loud to that guy. What do you all do when you call it wrong like that, just eat the cost of the first visit or charge the diagnostic anyway?
