Spent $80 on a universal dryer heating element that was a total dud
Had a Kenmore dryer with a bad element, so I grabbed a universal kit from the supply house. The part looked right and fit okay, but it burned out after just two weeks of normal use. Customer called back mad, and I had to eat the cost of a second repair plus a proper OEM part. Lost about $80 on the part itself and another hour of labor I couldn't charge for. Anyone have a good supplier for reliable generic heating elements, or is OEM the only safe bet for these now?

Universal parts are a gamble, but they can work out if you buy from a known brand. I've had good luck with the generic ones from AppliancePartsPros, actually. Just avoid the no-name stuff on Amazon.

Tell me about it, that's the worst.

Yeah, the no-name Amazon stuff is a total trap. I got burned on a universal dryer heating element that looked fine but cracked in two weeks. The metal was just too thin. Now I stick with the generic lines from the big parts sites too, they at least have some specs to check.
