Rant: A Samsung fridge ice maker decided to flood a kitchen on a Friday afternoon

Got a call yesterday about a fridge leaking onto a tile floor. The homeowner said it started around 2 PM. I get there, pull it out, and find the fill tube for the ice maker had cracked right at the solenoid connection. It wasn't a slow drip, it was a steady stream. I mean, I've seen those tubes get brittle, but this one just gave out completely. Has anyone else run into this specific failure on the newer Samsung French door models? Seems like a weak spot.

My buddy's place in Tempe had the same crack last winter.

Dealt with that exact crack on a 2021 model last month. I cut out the bad section and spliced in a piece of 1/4 inch plastic tubing from my truck, used two small hose clamps on each connection. The factory tube is junk. That quick fix held until the replacement line came in, saved the guy from having no fridge over the weekend.

That "factory tube is junk" line from @piper_green is so true. I had the same crack on my own fridge, a 2020 model. It was that same brittle plastic piece just snapping off. I did a temp fix with some vinyl tubing from the hardware store too, but man, what a mess to clean up. It really seems like a common flaw they never fixed.
