What kind of meter did you end up getting after that wake-up call? I'm curious if you went straight for the Fluke or looked at some of the mid-range options first.

Oh man, that's terrifying! I had a similar scare with an old lamp cord once, the insulation was all cracked and I got a nasty shock just touching the plug. It's funny how you think you know what you're doing until something like that happens and makes you realize how much you don't want to mess around with electricity.
