Lost a Saturday on a drain pump I didn't need to replace

Swapped out a perfectly good drain pump on a Whirlpool last month. Cost me $78 and 4 hours. Turned out the real issue was a stuck coin in the impeller housing. Has anyone else replaced a part before checking the cheap stuff first?
