Wrote off anime movie night at my buddy's place, ended up staying 4 hours

Last Saturday my friend Dave kept pushing this Ghibli marathon thing he does every month. I always figured it was just for hardcore fans or people who never grew up. He put on Spirited Away and I sat there ready to be bored, but the animation drew me in quick. Three movies later I was asking him where to start with the series. Has anyone else gone into one of these completely cold and got hooked?

Honestly I gotta disagree with this whole thing... anime just feels like something people outgrow, you know? I tried watching Spirited Away a few years back because everyone said it was a masterpiece and I kept waiting for something to actually happen. The artwork is fine I guess but sitting through 4 hours of that stuff sounds like torture to me. There's so many good live action movies out there that actually tell a story without all the weird fantasy stuff. I really don't get the appeal of grown adults getting that into cartoons.

Wait, did you notice how Alice said anime is for people who never grew up but then said Spirited Away didn't have a real story? That movie is literally about a girl having to grow up fast and save her parents from being turned into pigs, sounds like a pretty grown up lesson to me.
