Two anime subs had opposite vibes and I picked the wrong one first

I was trying to decide between joining r/anime and r/TrueAnime for discussion threads. I went with r/anime first because it had more members. After three weeks of posts about memes and waifu wars, I switched to TrueAnime and got actual analysis of pacing and character arcs. Anyone else find that smaller communities give better talk about shows?

Right, r/anime is basically a waifu marketplace at this point. I got into an "argument" there once about a show's themes and someone just replied with a JPEG of a cat.

You know what, I used to be on the other side of this. I thought bigger sub meant better content, like more people equals more good opinions. Then I spent a month in r/anime and felt like I was drowning in fanart and shipping polls. Switched over to TrueAnime and it was night and day. People actually break down why a fight scene works or how the soundtrack builds tension instead of just posting memes about it. Smaller groups force you to think harder because you can't just drop a one liner and move on. This post really flipped my view on the whole bigger isn't better thing.
