I was watching a behind the scenes clip on YouTube about how they make anime sound effects and the foley artist just whipped a leather belt past a microphone for a sword draw. I always thought they recorded actual metal sliding out of a scabbard but apparently real swords sound too thin and tinny for what we expect. They also use a bundle of celery snapping for bone breaks which blew my mind. Has anyone else gone down this rabbit hole with foley work, and are there other common sounds that are faked in ways I would never guess?
