Three episodes into Steins;Gate and I almost dropped it

I started Steins;Gate last week and the first few episodes felt so slow and confusing. All the random talk about bananas and John Titor made me think this show was just nonsense. But a friend told me to stick with it until episode 12, so I pushed through. Now I'm halfway through and I finally get why everyone calls it a masterpiece. Has anyone else almost quit a popular anime early on?

Bruh yes same here. I almost dropped it after episode 1 cause all the banana time travel stuff felt like some weird sci-fi comedy that went nowhere. But I kept hearing people say it gets really good so I stuck with it. Then around episode 12 or 13 when everything started clicking together and the tension ramped up I was like ohhhh now I get it. That moment when he goes back to find Mayuri... man that hooked me hard. I tell everyone now to give it at least 12 episodes before deciding.

I read somewhere that the creator actually planned out the whole time travel system way in advance, which is why it all comes together so cleanly later. The banana stuff is SUPPOSED to feel random at first because you're seeing it from Okabe's perspective before he understands what's happening. Once you get to the second half, every single weird moment from those early episodes has a purpose. It's like the show is playing a long game with you and it's SO satisfying when you realize it.
