The day I switched from dubbed to subbed anime changed everything
I spent about 3 years watching nothing but dubbed anime because I could multitask while folding laundry. Last month I finally gave subs a shot with Attack on Titan season 2. The voice acting just hit different with the original Japanese cast, especially Eren's screaming scenes. My laundry pile got way bigger but I actually felt the emotions more. Has anyone else made the switch and had trouble going back to dubs?

Nah, I actually went the other way and I still prefer dubs. Reading subtitles takes me out of the action, especially for fast paced shows like AoT where you miss half the animation trying to keep up with text. Plus most modern dubs are really good now, the cast for stuff like Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen is just as solid as the Japanese version. I get that some people feel the original voices are more emotional, but I don't think that's a fair comparison when you don't actually speak Japanese. You're just reacting to the sound being unfamiliar, not better.

I've watched AoT three times now and I still prefer subbed honestly. With a show that intense I actually feel like I catch more reading the subs because my eyes are already scanning the screen, while with dubs I'm sometimes distracted by how the mouth movements don't match. And I dunno, I think there's something to the original performances that just hits different even if I can't understand every word, like the raw emotion in Eren's scream or Levi's deadpan tone.
