That guy on an old forum told me to watch the original Mobile Suit Gundam before Iron-Blooded Orphans
I finally took his advice from a post back in 2016 and binged the original Gundam series last month. It made a huge difference in understanding all the political stuff in the newer show. Has anyone else found an old recommendation that actually paid off?

Wait, someone actually told you to watch the original Gundam from 1979 before jumping into IBO? That's wild. I remember getting the same advice on a thread about the Zaku vs the Graze and just ignored it for like two years. When I finally watched the original, it blew my mind how much of the Zeon vs Federation conflict bleeds into Tekkadan's whole deal. That Gihren Zabi speech near the end is basically the same playbook the bad guys use in IBO.

No way, I totally missed the Zabi speech connection! I watched those episodes back to back and didn't put it together. That's actually genius because Gihren's whole "sacrifice for the greater good" thing is exactly what Rustal Elion does in IBO. Makes me wonder what other little details I missed from the old show that show up later. Did you spot any other parallels between the two?
