That beloved anime streaming service I trusted crashed during a crucial weekend marathon

I had planned a whole Saturday last month to finally watch the new season of Mob Psycho 100 with my nephew, but the Crunchyroll app on my TV just kept freezing every 10 minutes. After restarting the router twice and trying a different device, I still missed half the episodes and we gave up by dinner. Has anyone else found a way to get these services to actually work reliably on a Roku?

My Roku stick (the 2022 model) did the exact same thing with Crunchyroll during the first episode of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2. I ended up disconnecting the HDMI cable and plugging it back in which actually helped for a while. But honestly the app itself is just a mess on Roku compared to other platforms. I switched to watching on my laptop with a wired connection and the buffering stopped completely. It sucks that you have to give up the convenience of a TV just to get stable playback though. Pop, the Amazon Fire Stick (which my brother has) seems to run Crunchyroll way smoother if you can borrow one from someone.

Try clearing the Crunchyroll app cache on your Roku before you start a binge, it actually helps for a solid hour or so before the freezing kicks back in. @the_dylan is right about wired connections too, I switched to a cheap HDMI adapter for my laptop and it saved me from throwing the remote through the TV. Still feels dumb that I can't just relax on the couch like a normal person without the app ruining it.
