My issue with anime forums: everything becomes a shipping debate

I was in a discussion about Attack on Titan's moral dilemmas last night. Suddenly, the whole thing shifted to who should end up with who. It's SO annoying when serious themes get buried under romance guesses. I just want to talk about the story and characters, not pairings. This pattern ruins good conversations for me.

Ugh, that derailment is the worst. But isn't it weird how sometimes the shipping talk is actually trying to get at character dynamics? Not always, but maybe the jump to pairings is a clumsy way people try to connect to the characters personally. It just misses the bigger points you want to talk about.

Typical. Turn every character moment into shipping fuel. It's like watching a movie and only caring about the kiss scene. You miss the whole point of why they're even in the same room. But sure, let's argue about which made-up people should date. That's real helpful.

Watch people ship two characters who've never met, I mean at least pick ones who share a scene.
