My buddy's 3 AM tangent about filler arcs fixed how I watch everything now

Was rewatching Bleach with my friend Dave last week and he paused mid-episode to complain about a filler arc. I laughed it off saying I just skip those, but he got real serious and said you only skip the boring parts of life because you think the main plot is what matters. That hit weird because he was talking about our weekly D&D group at his place in Austin, the sessions everyone calls the slow ones. Now I catch myself noticing the small character moments in shows like the market scenes in Frieren or the cooking stuff in Dungeon Meshi, and they feel more important than the boss fights. Anyone else had a conversation that flipped how they see pacing in anime, or am I just overthinking a drunk rant?
