Just realized most of my favorite anime openings are from the same composer

I was talking to my buddy Mark at the comic shop last Saturday about the opening to Cowboy Bebop and he mentioned how Yoko Kanno did a ton of iconic tracks. Then I looked up who did the music for Samurai Champloo and Macross Plus and sure enough it was her again. It hit me that I've been vibing to her stuff for years without even knowing. Anyone else ever notice a pattern like that with creators they didn't realize they were following?

Did you notice if her style has a particular sound that pulls you in every time?

Hear her voice on the first track and it just hits different. There's this raw, slightly breathless quality she has on the slower songs, like she's telling you a secret she's almost too embarrassed to share. It makes everything feel really personal and vulnerable. On the upbeat numbers, her voice gets this slight crack or strain on the high notes that sounds so real, not polished at all. That mix of softness and grit is what keeps me coming back.
